Need: Talented young educated school leavers and graduates - particularly in rural areas - find it increasingly difficult to enter the job market. While qualified with the necessary exams, they lack skills and the confidence. Further more they have little sense of the investment and impact they can make as young people for their communities and the communities near them.

Aim:
Development objectives are defined not just in terms of increase in GDP or per capita income, but also in terms of enhancement of human resource development index. The SPW Programme aims to develop in each young volunteer, as well as those with whom they interact, the ability and the desire to use his/ her own potential to the fullest.

Key methods:
Focus the vast majority of its work as an NGO on training and deploying young volunteers to live and work for long periods of time with other school age youth. In doing so they:

Help young people realise their tremendous power and strength, when organised together, to bring about change and achieve common goals.

Help volunteers gain the confidence to lead schools and communities in their development
Give young people opportunities to make decisions and carry out plans
Build a positive image of the role young people can take
Empower young people to take up leadership in the village
