Need: In
the developing world, 5 million children from 0-14 years die every year
from diseases linked to the environment in which they live, learn and
play - their home, their school, their community. SPW India's environment
activities are
aimed at empowering children to take responsibility for the school environment.
We hope the children will then carry an environmental consciousness and
problem solving ethic with them beyond the school.
Aim: To empower young people
to find solutions to environmental issues
and care for the environment.
Key methods: Using the school
environment as a centre of participatory practical learning for both the
students and teachers. The SPW's environment programme in schools consists
of two complementary components: first the infrastructure component of
setting up the projects mentioned below and second the setting up of Green
Clubs or Leadership Clubs responsible for running of these programmes.
